Sponsored Golden Mile for T1International

On Wednesday 1st May, the whole school did their weekly Golden Mile, but this particular week had a twist; they were raising money for T1International; a charity very close to our hearts! Pupils, staff, family and friends of Parwich Primary School enjoyed running, jogging or walking the perimeter of the Cricket Pitch hoping to gain as many laps as possible to raise as much money as possible.

T1International is a non-profit organisation, run by people with, and impacted by, Type 1 Diabetes for people with Type 1 Diabetes. Around the globe today, people with Type 1 Diabetes are dying because they cannot afford or get a hold of insulin, supplies, education and treatment. They believe in a world where everyone with Type 1 Diabetes – no matter where they live – has everything they need to survive and achieve their dreams. Their mission is to support local communities by giving them the tools they need to stand up for their rights so that access to insulin and diabetes supplies becomes a reality for all. We at Parwich would like to support T1International in their mission.

KS2 Netball – Spring Term 2 2019

On Wednesday 27th February, our KS2 children enjoyed a Mini Event with FitzHerbert and Biggin pupils. The Year 3/4 children played rounders and the Year 5/6 children took part in a Netball Tournament on Parwich Tennis Courts. Fun was had by all!

KS1 Gymnastics – Spring Term 1 2019

The Infant children attended a gymnastics festival at Queen Elizabeth Grammar School on Monday 14 January. They watched a routine performed by the students, participated in a variety of gymnastic moves, from forwards rolls to body balances, and experimented travelling across the mats.

The Infants proved they had stamina moving through six activities without stopping for a break. Towards the end of the afternoon, the Infants joined another school to learn and perform a routine to music. Fun was had by all.

Tag Rugby – Years 5 & 6 – Autumn Term 1 2018

The children have been impressing Mrs. Jones with their Tag Rugby skills this term. They have worked very hard in their PE lessons and this was evident at our recent Mini Event with FitzHerbert, Biggin and Hartington Primary Schools.

At the QEGS event on Monday 22 October, the Year 5 & 6 team have gone from strength to strength, showcasing real teamwork in order to draw one game and win five out of their six matches at QEGS. Mrs. Jones was especially proud of them for winning the ‘Team Spirit’ award at this event, as they were very considerate of their team mates, and those from other schools, throughout the tournament.

Well done everyone.

Cross Country Event at QEGS  – Monday 17th September 2018

Monday 17 September was the Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School’s Cluster annual cross-country event. Florrie showed great determination to take part and represented Parwich with great sportsmanship. Well done, Florrie!

Year 6 ‘On-Board Sailing Qualification – Summer  Term 2 2018

After completing six sailing lessons on Carsington Water and demonstrating the correct level of skill, our Year 6 pupils were successful in achieving their Level 1 qualifications.

World Cup – Summer Term 2 2018

During the last few weeks, we have been following the Football World Cup hosted in Russia. The children all pulled one of the 36 countries competing out of a box and, in the Junior Class, they have studied that country very closely; researching whereabouts in the world it is, capital cities, terrain and climate, population, native animals, traditional food and drink, highest points and longest rivers, the country’s flag, etc. They have watched one of their team’s matches and written match reports or notes on the game.

Our Sports Day this year followed the theme of the World Cup, as we opened our afternoon of races with England’s National Anthem and the children all wore the flag of the team they have been following throughout the competition. We have been following the progress of our teams during assemblies; alongside discussing the importance of sportsmanship and even learning ‘It’s coming home!’ in Makaton, a form of sign language!

Rounders – Years 5 & 6 – Summer Term 2 2018

On Thursday 12 July, our Year 5 / 6 Rounders team competed at QEGS. They played two matches – winning both! Mrs Jones was particularly impressed with, not only the standard of play, but the sportsmanship our team showed; they were extremely courteous towards the other teams and each other, encouraging all players whenever needed, celebrating the other teams and thanking them with a handshake at the end of each match. None of this needed prompting by Mrs Jones and she was especially proud, as the children had been discussing sportsmanship during their recent assemblies.

Monday 25 – Friday 29 June 2018

The whole school had a fantastic week celebrating ‘National Sports Week’. It was an action packed week having a go at new sports and experiencing firm favourites.  Our Year 6 children finished off the week gaining an ‘Onboard’ Sailing Level 1 qualification.

KS2 Orienteering Champions – Summer Term 1 2018

Our Junior Class were highly delighted recently, when, after working in teams, they achieved first place in the QEGS Cluster Orienteering event, which was led by the Derbyshire Orienteering Association. Well done!

Cross Country Competition – 11th November 2017

A huge well done to Kacee, representing QEGS in the Rural Derbyshire Team Cross Country Final: the team came in a well-deserved second. Kacee qualified in the top 11 in an event at QEGS making it possible for her to take part in this Derbyshire event.

Fantastic time was had by all on this warm sunny afternoon!

KS2 Mini Netball Event with Biggin Primary School

On Tuesday 21st March, our KS2 children took part in a Mini Netball Event with Biggin pupils on Parwich Tennis Courts. Two tournaments; Year 3/4 and Year 5/6, ran alongside each other on separate courts and our new Netball posts were used for the first time! All who took part played really well and improved significantly as the afternoon progressed. This event has helped the children prepare for the upcoming Netball events a QEGS. Thank you to all who took part and for the Sports Leaders from QEGS who came to help us run this event, sharing their Netball expertise with pupils and staff.
